The Meat Dress

So, Lady Gaga wore a dress, apparently made of meat, to the MTV music awards.

In a (I suppose) kinda twisted way I think I admire that woman, and the dress has, indeed, lifted my enthusiasm to a higher level.
All I can say is bravo - you are one brilliant singer, songwriter, and overall: Business woman. I don't mean to be rude or cynical about the woman, I genuinely love her, but come on. That dress was a device to get people talking; a way to make people say "ooooh... Look what Gaga's done now." After the sheer madness and organised confusion of the 'Alejandro' video, what with the 'machine-gun-bra' and the 'blasphemous' nature of the music video one might think that the queen of pop herself might not be able to spark yet more controversy, and the last thing anyone might've thought would be that it'd be by wearing a dress. It seems she has proved everyone wrong by angering Animal Rights Protesters (Peta), and (no doubt) vegetarians alike whilst also provoking people to work out why*. The views differ widely: An anti fashion statement? A feminist statement? Maybe a statement about ageing and decay? Perhaps commenting on our hypocritical attitude towards meat. But most believe it means nothing specific.
While Gaga may well be, as I said before, pulling this 'stunt' for no more a reason than some more fame, money, or controversy, I do not believe this is the case.
Meat is a raw material, and we can use it for what we like (yes, this includes wearing). It is a widely known fact that Gaga is an erotic icon, known for her outrageous and argument-inspiring actions, breaking taboo, and not conforming; she is far from the norm. Now I put it to you, my very few fellow bloggers: What, exactly is the difference between wearing raw meat and wearing fur? (Yes, I understand meat will smell.) Fur is fashionable, as far as I'm aware, expensive, but it is still the skin of a dead animal. I personally believe this action was a statement, perhaps of all the things above, but also a statement about just how unpredictable the Lady is.

I say good on her. She must have stunk by the end of the evening.

*since posting I have found out that now even butchers are complaining: http://celebrity.uk.msn.com/news/gossip/articles.aspx?cp-documentid=154670873&ocid=today
I however also disagree with them. The amount of money you spend on an outfit you only wear once has to be minimal.

p.s. I wonder if the green party was offended or not? It is, afterall, perfectly recyclable.
